MTS Verlouw grows each year 52 acres of seed potatoes and they will start with minitubers  wich will be for 3 years maximum at the company so they can be the start for a new season with the highest class S. We grow the larger, more proven varieties but also add 1-2 new varieties each year. The temperate climate in combination with the rich soil in the Netherlands is ideal for growing potatoes. Once harvested, the full crop of seed potatoes is stored in chests to dry. About 8 weeks later (usually in start of November), the first potatoes will be re-sorted and exported. According to the Registered World Trade report, 70% of the world’s certified seed potatoes come from the Netherlands. This is a good indicator of how important seed potato cultivation is for the Netherland’s export industry.
