MTS Verlouw exports 52 acres of seed potatoes each year with the highest demand coming from Asia and North Africa. We grow the larger, more proven varieties but also add 1-2 new varieties each year. The temperate climate in combination with the rich soil in the Netherlands is ideal for growing potatoes. Once harvested, the full crop of seed potatoes is stored in chests to dry. Six weeks later (usually in early October), the first potatoes will be re-sorted and exported. According to the Registered World Trade report, 70% of the world’s certified seed potatoes come from the Netherlands. This is a good indicator of how important seed potato cultivation is for the Netherland’s export industry.
